Just spotted on my way to the VW dealer to retrieve our freshly 20k-serviced Jetta. Stay classy, Manchester.
Anyone else think these panhandlers would do well to go work for minimum wage somewhere instead of this?

Had a fairly long chat with a pan handler waiting for the metro. Turns out he was clearing much more than minimum wage during morning/evening rush as well as lunch.

Everytime I see one now I think about the one guy that had a sign saying "Not homeless yet, please take my resume" I never saw him again. The others I still see every week.

In downtown Chicago, homeless people can make upwards of $50-$100 a day in just a few hours. Some do have other jobs during the night because it gives them somewhere safe to stay.
That being said, holding a job can be incredibly difficult for some people. These are people who don't have family to turn to, who suffer from addictions, PTSD, or chronic illness and can't afford proper treatment because they can't get a job, because they can't get proper treatment. In other cases, they're just regular folks who fell on hard times and got evicted, and they're trying to survive until they can find a new job - which can become exponentially more difficult to find if you're a felon (even if you committed the crime DECADES ago, it follows you to every job application) or if you can't afford nice clothes or find a regular shower.
I don't know much more than that, but I'd say there's a good venn diagram that could show the proportion of genuine, honest people who need the money and people who are just choosing to do this instead of having to answer to a boss, and which ones overlap.

There's a panhandler in DC who's this fat white guy who is a complete asshole. The other day he called me a 'fat f***' for not giving him money (he doesn't accept food). Keep in mind, I'm 175lbs and 6'2". He's 5'5"ish and 250+lbs.
